Three Capacitor Truths

There are all kinds of AC/DC capacitors out there. Some smooth the output of power supplies, stabilise voltage and/or improve the efficiency of power flow – others store energy for voltage conversion or can filter harmonics. Our goal is to create the best solution for each and every one of them. It might sound ambitious, we know. But our in-house know-how, developed during the long history of Tervakoski Film, keeps us confident enough to never say no to a challenge. We also like to follow these three truths in everything we do.

TRUTH 1: Quality is never a compromise

It´s very important that our customers can trust our entire supply chain – in our philosophy it means from polymerisation to delivery. This is why we guarantee that in our supply chain the entire workflow takes place in a specifically designed and dedicated process environment and conditions in order to secure consistent reliability and safety. To us, that’s the only way to create powerful, cost-effective products with a long lifecycle. There are no shortcuts. We’ll gladly walk that extra mile to ensure that our films withstand high stress levels and display excellent endurance qualities (temperature, voltage, ageing) at all times.

For example, HVAC/HVDC Power Grid Systems often need to operate in extreme ambient climate conditions. As a result, we’ve created hazy films for impregnation utilising specific film features generated by our unique BOPP blown and tenter film technologies.

We guarantee that in our supply chain the entire workflow takes place in a specifically designed and dedicated process environment and conditions in order to secure consistent reliability and safety.

TRUTH 2: Matter matters

We believe that each product is as good as the substance it’s made from. In other words, we start from the source: the raw material. Firstly, we study polymeric details and quality statistics from our BOPP capacitor film processes. This data, combined with capacitor performance results and extensive experience, helps us make the right decisions.

For instance, our metallised AC/DC films (1,9 µm – 16 µm) for dry and impregnated capacitors have been developed to display extremely low losses in AC applications and next to none ripple current in DC applications. Furthermore, the material can withstand extreme voltage stresses and high ambient temperatures. This makes the films suitable for various applications, e.g. off-shore or inland wind power converter stations, locomotive and automotive applications, as well as industry and civil power factor correction applications.

Besides having the chance to utilise statistics, we can further develop our knowledge through two different BOPP technologies in a full range of BOPP capacitor film applications.
